Attorney Jim Tucker
When you have a legal problem, you want more than just someone who can explain the law. You want an attorney who has spent years in real courtrooms, working with judges, opposing lawyers, and clients facing tough situations. Jim Tucker brings this experience to every personal injury and family law case he handles. As one satisfied client says:
“Mr. Tucker was the mediator of my divorce 2 years ago. I have often wished I could thank him for getting a settlement/agreement in such a short time. I didn’t know it then, but I know now how fortunate I was to have him as my mediator. Thank you, Mr. Tucker.”
Jim’s practice is built on real courtroom experience. He represents clients in Family Court and Circuit Court in South Carolina, in district and superior courts in North Carolina, and appeals before the Carolinas’ courts of appeals and the supreme courts. This broad experience means Jim can guide clients through every step of a case, from procedural changes and deadlines to key decisions. Whether a case settles quickly or goes to trial, his background gives clients steady guidance from someone who knows the process inside and out.
As another client has said:
“Jim Tucker and his staff were super informative and very expeditious with my case and pleasant to work with. They made a hard situation easier with understanding and attention.”
Matters that involve injuries from a car accident or trucking crash, a wrongful death, or divorce can bring a lot of stress and financial worry. Personal injury clients need a lawyer who understands injuries, liability, insurance, and an accident’s lasting impact. Family law clients need someone who can balance strong advocacy with sound judgment in cases involving children, support, property, and major life changes. With nearly 40 years of experience in these areas, Jim provides clients with clear advice that fits their needs, as evidenced by the following client testimonial:
“Jim Tucker and his paralegal did a great job in handling my divorce as plaintiff. The other party did all she could to make the situation totally impossible for everyone (including her own attorney) by procrastinating and trying to drag the case out, which she did for almost 19 months. It took some time, but tact, perseverance, and patience on Jim’s part paid off.”
Jim also stands out for his role in the legal community. He is a Certified Court Mediator, a member of the South Carolina Bar and the North Carolina Bar, a past president of the York County Bar Association, and a member of South Carolina Association for Justice. Jim also coaches a middle school mock trial team, which reflects a commitment to teaching, mentoring, and strengthening the next generation of legal thinkers. Those activities reinforce the kind of credibility clients look for in a trusted attorney.
Some of the characteristics that make Jim different include the following:
- Decades of experience handling personal injury and family law matters
- Representation in South Carolina and North Carolina trial courts
- Appellate experience before the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court
- Certified Court Mediator training for resolution-focused cases
- Longstanding service with the same firm location for continuity and institutional knowledge
- Membership in state and local bar organizations that support professional accountability
- Ability to provide practical guidance for clients who need steady communication and clear strategy
At McKinney, Tucker & Lemel, Jim Tucker’s experience translates into confident representation and reliable client service. For people facing difficult legal issues, that combination of longevity, courtroom familiarity, and client-centered advocacy can make a meaningful difference in how a case is handled and how a client feels throughout the process, as this one says:
“Mr. Tucker and his associate were outstanding with the help they gave me in securing my granddaughter and bringing her back home. … The care they put into this was unbelievable. They made me truly feel that they cared as if this was their own family member. Going through a circumstance like this is no fun, but Mr. Tucker took a lot of the worry away. Highly recommend him and the law firm.”
Jim was born in Darlington, South Carolina and spent his childhood in Society Hill. He credits his mother with his sense of fairness and his father with his competitive edge. At a fairly early age, Jim decided he wanted to be an attorney rather than follow his family’s farming legacy.
He attended high school in Cheraw, South Carolina and college in Charleston. Upon graduating from the University of South Carolina School of Law, he joined the firm of McKinney, Givens and Millar in Rock Hill. He has remained with successor firms at the same location, building the kind of experience and consistency people look for when it matters most.
